Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Utulis.com (“Utulis,” “we,” “us”), including its story platform, bookstore, and classifieds section, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Users under 18 should have parental awareness before submitting content or making purchases.

3. User Accounts

  • You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
  • One account per person. Duplicate or fraudulent accounts may be suspended.
  • You must provide accurate information when registering.

4. Collaborative Fiction

  • Submissions must be original work or work you have rights to publish.
  • Utulis runs voting rounds to select winning submissions per round. Voting periods, thresholds, and rules are set by Utulis and may change.
  • Fiction submissions: By submitting fiction, you grant Utulis a non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable license to host, display, and distribute the story as part of the platform’s collaborative universe. Submissions are published as-is; Utulis does not edit content for spelling, grammar, or style, so review your submission carefully before posting. You do not retain individual ownership rights over the submitted fiction; it becomes part of the shared collaborative work. Fiction submissions cannot be deleted once published, as removal disrupts the voting round and collaborative continuity.
  • True Story submissions: You retain copyright in the story text as submitted. This right is limited to authorship of that specific work and does not extend to advertising revenue, platform earnings, royalties, or any right beyond the submitted content itself. You grant Utulis a non-exclusive license to host and display the submission. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of any submission labeled “True Story”; Utulis does not verify factual claims and disclaims liability for defamation, fabrication, or misrepresentation in submitted content.
  • Duplicate submissions, plagiarism, or AI-generated content misrepresented as original may be rejected or removed.
  • Copyright complaints: If you believe a submission infringes your copyright, send a written notice identifying the material and proof of ownership to our contact email. We will remove or restrict access to the disputed content pending review, notify the submitter, and allow a counter-notice. Repeat infringers will be permanently banned.

5. Bookstore

  • Purchases made through the Utulis bookstore are processed via third-party payment providers.
  • Prices, availability, and formats (digital/print) are subject to change.
  • All sales are final. No refunds on digital products.
  • Print products may be fulfilled by third-party providers (e.g. Amazon); any refund, return, or shipping issue for print is subject to that provider’s policy, not Utulis’s.
  • Digital products are for personal use only and may not be redistributed. Unauthorized reproduction, resale, or distribution of purchased content may result in account suspension and pursuit of available legal remedies, including copyright takedown requests against infringing copies.

6. Classifieds

  • You must be at least 18 years old to post or transact in the classifieds section. By posting or transacting, you self-certify that you meet this age requirement; Utulis does not independently verify age, and you bear responsibility for any misrepresentation.
  • Classifieds listings are user-generated. Utulis does not verify the accuracy of listings and is not a party to transactions between users.
  • Prohibited listings include: illegal goods/services, counterfeit items, adult services, scams, and anything violating applicable law.
  • Featured/paid listings are processed via Stripe. All Stripe transactions are final; chargeback abuse may result in permanent account ban and forfeiture of the listing.
  • Guest posters must verify their email. Contact details submitted may be masked but are not guaranteed anonymous against legal requests.
  • If your chosen display name is already in use by another poster, the platform will notify you and suggest an alternative (e.g. a pseudonym). Using your real name is permitted only where it is genuinely your own name.
  • Listings expire automatically after the stated period and may be removed without notice for policy violations.
  • Utulis may block access by device, email, or payment method — not only by account — to prevent ban evasion.
  • Utulis may introduce additional paid features or fee structures in the classifieds section in the future; any such fees will be disclosed at the time of purchase.

7. Prohibited Conduct

You may not:

  • Post content that is defamatory, obscene, hateful, or infringes on others’ rights.
  • Attempt to hack, scrape, or disrupt the platform.
  • Impersonate others or misrepresent your identity.
  • Use the platform for spam or unauthorized commercial solicitation.

8. Content Ownership & License

  • By posting content, you grant Utulis a license to display, reproduce, and promote that content on the platform and in related marketing. Ownership terms for story submissions are set out in Section 4 (Fiction vs. True Story).
  • Utulis may remove any content that violates these Terms at its discretion.

9. Intellectual Property

The Utulis name, logo, design, concept, and underlying software are the property of Utulis and may not be copied or reused without permission.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

Utulis is provided “as is.” We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, error-free operation, or that content on the platform is accurate or reliable.

11. Limitation of Liability

Utulis is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, including disputes between users in the classifieds section. Where liability cannot be excluded, Utulis’s total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid to Utulis in the 12 months preceding the claim, or USD 50 if you paid nothing.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, without prior notice, at our discretion.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be indicated by updating the “Last updated” date above and, where practical, an onsite notice. Since registration is not required to use most features, we cannot guarantee individual notice to every user; users who have voluntarily provided an email (e.g. classifieds, bookstore) may also be notified of material changes. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

15. Assignment

Utulis may assign or transfer these Terms and related user data in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our consent.

16. Dispute Resolution

If any dispute arises, you agree to first contact Utulis directly to seek resolution, allowing 30 days for a response. If unresolved, either party may propose mediation before escalating further.

17. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Utulis is legally established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
